Welcome to DSM Electric

Growing up in Central Ontario in the heart of the Haliburton Highlands, Don and his gang of small town friends, like most pre-adolescent boys, were continuously building all kinds of tree forts and projects where skinned knuckles and shins were mostly the inevitable outcome.

In 1983 life changed dramatically for Don as he, his parents and siblings relocated to Frobisher Bay, Northwest Territories, now renamed Iqaluit, Nunavut as Don's parents went to work at his uncle's construction company and where Don would also work as a summer student.

While working with a variety of tradesmen from plumbers to carpenters to working with heavy equipment, it was the electrical shop that sparked the most interest in the teenager. After graduating high school and a try at university, Don would get a job at the Department of Public Works of the NWT in their electrical shop as a casual/part time employee and then finally starting a registered apprenticeship with his uncle's company, Baffin Building Systems.

Over the next few years Don would jump from one employer to another to stay busy and provide for his young family, all the while not getting a chance to attend trade school due to the remote area he lived in.

After relocating back to Ontario and working in various fields, Don finally got his apprenticeship back on track by getting on with a local electrical company and attending trade school at Humber College, in Toronto, for his first and second year and the Sir Sanford Fleming College, in Peterborough, for his final year.

During the session of trade school in Peterborough, Don would make friends with Tim "Apsley" Lee and they would take turns driving back and forth to school. Tim Lee would eventually get Don a job with his company that was based out of Kitchener and did commercial electrical construction, building large box stores like Walmarts, Canadian Tire stores, Lowes and large grocery stores.

Working all over Ontario takes a toll on the family life, and after a serious injury in a car accident it was time to move on. After moving to the South Georgian Bay area, just outside Wasaga Beach and after rehabbing from the accident, the dream of owning his own company was realized in the fall of 2016 and Don established DSM Electric, named after the initials in his name.

Specializing in residential and commercial electrical construction and maintenance in serving the people of Simcoe County and Muskoka, Don looks forward to building his new company into the future.
